MONTY BELL

Monty Bell

Monty Bell has been a member of the San Diego Sheriff’s Mountain Rescue Team for over 30 years, where he has served as President and Operation Leader. Monty has been an instructor at the San Diego Sheriff’s Department SAR Academy for Search Management & Operations, Technical Rescue, and Tracking. He is currently a Senior Search Management Instructor for the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). Monty is also an Instructor for the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) “Managing the Lost Person Incident,” and a graduate of the National SAR School. Monty has served as President of both NASAR and the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA). He is the MRA Membership Chair and oversees the MRA’s Accreditations and Reaccreditations for Search Management, Technical Rescue, and Snow and Ice Rescue. Monty created the SAR Mission Database for the MRA and Cal OES and is currently the Program Manager for both databases. Monty has co-authored the Cal OES mutual aid guidelines for Tracking Teams, Incident Support Teams, Alpine Rescue Teams, Ground SAR Teams, and, most recently, the Model Plan for Extended Searches in Remote, Mountainous Terrain.
