Where to Attach Retrieval Line
In Confined Space Rescue, a common misconception is that the retrieval line used on an entrant (subject or rescuer) in a confined space must be attached to the Dorsal connection on a harness. That is not always the case. In many cases the Sternal connection on a rescue harness creates the same size or smaller profile as the Dorsal connection which meets the OSHA requirements. In other situations, the only method of attachment that would allow the entrant to be successfully retrieved from a space would be wristlets or anklets. If the entrant is unresponsive, wristlets or anklets are a last resort due to potential injury but may be necessary due to the situation.
