There are four basic categories of Confined Space Rescues:

The Rescue that never happens – prevented by proactive intervention
Self-Rescue
Non-Entry Rescue
Entry Rescue

The best rescue is one that never needs to take place because of following good procedures or proactive intervention. Self-Rescue and Non-Entry Rescue are the fastest for the subject and expose the rescuers to the least risk. An Entry-Rescue is the last resort and only done when the other options are not viable.
