Jim fell in love with the fire service as a student while pursuing a fire fighter opportunity in college. His 36 year career began as a fire fighter with the City of Astoria Oregon, and then on the City of Bend, Oregon Fire and Rescue, Deschutes County, Oregon Search and Rescue, Jefferson County Oregon Search and Rescue, City of Reno, Nevada Fire Department, United States Virgin Islands Fire and EMS, and his current position with the City of Pendleton, Oregon Fire and Ambulance.
Qualifications include Master Instructor Certification State of Nevada, Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Structural Collapse Rescue, Paramedic, REM, Swift water Rescue, Hazardous Materials Technician, Vehicle Rescue Technician, and a B.S. in Emergency Services Management.
Jim currently teaches CMC’s open enrollment and contract Rope Rescue Technician and Confined Space classes. When asked what he likes about teaching CMC classes, he replied, “I love the opportunity to meet and assist many people in learning new skills and/or polishing up their existing skills. Really enjoy advising and assisting others in developing their teams to meet the needs of their community as well as offering a perspective to assist them with, sometimes, very specific rescue challenges within their AHJ.” Jim also enjoys the research and testing opportunities and ability to network with others in the rescue industry.
