Roger That: A pulley system for your not so average subject

He asked, you answered. Learn what kind of pulley system this team used to hoist their larger-than-life victim!

No Horsing Around

We used a pulley system to hoist a large horse that was stuck in an old hand-dug well. We used a 5:1 block-and-tackle system hooked to a 9:1 system and a large animal lifting sling. We then utilized a large Case tractor with a front end loader as a high pick point and 2 MPD’s as progress capture.

The creative system worked well, and allowed us to slowly lift the horse while allowing the rescue team to work the animal free. It took several hours but was a successful operation. I think it highlighted our think outside the box approach to rope systems!

Got something to add? We’d love to hear it. Post your answer in the comments!
