CAPTO™ DROP TEST 13 MM (1/2 IN)

TEST METHOD

CAPTO is designed to limit dynamic impact loads by slipping along rope to dissipate energy. To generate data on CAPTO’s dynamic force-limiting capabilities across industry ropes, a series of 1 m (3.28 ft) drop tests were performed using a 200 kg (441 lb) test mass. Tests were performed as per EN 12841:2006/B*.

Tests were conducted in a controlled laboratory environment using a fresh rope sample from a single lot of new rope for each rope type. Each drop was performed once per rope type. The results for peak arrest force and max slip distance are provided in the graphs below.

*Note: The 13 mm CAPTO passes EN 12841:2006/B when tested in-house, however, it is not currently third-party certified to EN standards.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • 13 mm CAPTO tested on seven 12.5-13 mm ropes showed a peak arrest force of 3.79 kN (853 lbf) to 7.34 kN (1,649 lbf).
  • 13 mm CAPTO slip distance ranged from 24 cm (9.45 in) to 138 cm (54.33 in) across the test ropes.
  • In all test cases, CAPTO limited peak force loads to values below 25% of the published MBS for the given rope type.
  • Both the test device and test ropes remained in serviceable condition following the drop event.
  • These results are representative. Force-limiting behavior is variable and influenced by many factors.

WARNINGS

  • Force-limiting behavior is variable, and influenced by many factors including rope lot and diameter, rope and device wear, and environmental conditions.
  • This data is representative and provided for informational purposes only.
  • Fully read and comprehend the CAPTO Manual prior to use in any rigging scenario.
  • Obtain professional training to industry standards prior to CAPTO testing/application.
  • Consult a qualified technician or trainer before attempting techniques on your own.
