CLUTCH™ DROP TEST 11 MM (7/16 IN)

TEST METHOD

The CLUTCH is designed to arrest a fall and limit the dynamic impact load by safely slipping a limited amount of rope during an impact to dissipate energy. To inform users about the dynamic performance across a wide range of industry ropes, drop tests were performed with several ropes.

Note: For each drop, the maximum arrest force is captured by a high-speed load-cell. The distance of rope slipping through the device is recorded as well as the total system extension.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • 11 mm CLUTCH tested on thirteen 10.5-11 mm ropes showed a max arrest force of 6.6 kN to 10.1 kN.
  • 11 mm CLUTCH safely arrested the fall with no visible damage to the ropes in all 13 cases.
  • 11 mm CLUTCH rope slip ranged from 35 mm to 680 mm across industry ropes.
  • 11 mm CLUTCH system extension ranged from 180 mm to 990 mm across industry ropes.

WARNINGS

  • THIS DATA IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY
  • For each rope type, a minimum of two samples from a single lot of new rope were tested in a controlled laboratory environment.
  • CLUTCH slip behavior is influenced by many factors including lot-to-lot rope variability, variation in rope diameter, rope and device wear, environmental conditions, etc.
  • Fully read and comprehend the CLUTCH Manual prior to use in any rigging scenario.
  • Obtain professional training to industry standards prior to CLUTCH testing/application.
  • Consult a qualified technician or trainer before attempting techniques on your own.
